GP Counselling

Sometimes people ask their GP for counselling. If so your GP may suggest you attend an agency such as Sutton Counselling as a private client, or they may refer you to the local Sutton & Merton IAPT Service.

IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) is an NHS initiative to offer services to improve the nations psychological health.  Sutton Counselling delivers counselling in partnership with IAPT at some GP surgeries.

You can ask your GP to refer you, or self-refer to the IAPT Team on  0800 032 4207. Once in contact with the IAPT team you will be offered an assessment and then be given a number of choices for treatment, depending on your need. If appropriate you may be offered counselling provided by Sutton Counselling in a GP surgery or at our base in Sutton town centre.

If you are a GP or practice manager interested in arranging a counselling service please contact Alistair Park, Head of Operations.

If you attend as a private client, you do not need a referral from your GP to access our counselling services, and you do not need to tell your GP if you use our services.
